Director of FinanceSue Smith
Sue is the typical "self-made woman", having achieved her ultimate goal of 'Finance Director' in a male-oriented industry. Sue is a local girl, having spent all of her life in and around Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire.
She started her working career as a junior typist and quickly recognised that she had a flair for financial matters. Sue progressed through various finance roles in her career, such as Credit Controller, Accounts Payable Manager, Financial Controller and her ultimate achievement of a Finance Director. Sue worked within industries such as NHS, Education and Retail, but finally found her 'niche' in the male-oriented industry of Vehicle and Trucks.
She soon became established with the larger companies in the industry and was head hunted to become an essential figure and part of a 'Management Buy Out' of a fast developing company in Waste Specialist Vehicle Rental and Maintenance. Sue helped develop this company from inception, to become an industry leader. The company achieved the national accolade of being placed in the top 50 of the Deloitte and Touche Indy 100 and the Financial Times FT100 for the fastest 100 growing companies in the UK. The company now has an annual turnover in excess of £80m. Unfortunately, during this process, Sue was diagnosed with cancer.
Sue made the decision that she would not let cancer beat her; despite a horrendous 15 months of treatment. However, she not only continued to work, but she also became involved in raising funds for Breast Cancer care - to date, she has raised over £20,000.
In 2010, Sue's husband retired from work and, due to her previous medical history, Sue made the reluctant decision to also retire and enjoy time at home. However Sue, having a bubbly, chatty and interactive personality, missed the daily challenge and banter with colleagues, so has now returned to work and is thoroughly enjoying her role with Involve Northwest.
