Matt joined Involve Northwest as a trainee, back in 2015. With a background in customer service and retail management, he was drawn to the position as it involved face-to-face interaction and mentoring individuals, some in complex circumstances; assisting them in preparation to re-join the workforce.

With an honours degree in Linguistics from York St John University and experience in recruitment, Matt offers one-to-one sessions, such as confidence building, improving interview technique, critiquing CVs and offering advice on increasing employability.

"In the current climate, there are many more people submitting applications for the same positions and the competition is much more fierce. It is, therefore, much more important to do your homework and prepare for the interview. Everybody knows how important first impressions are. But not everybody knows that the "first impression" is actually only a seven second window upon first meeting someone. This means, in an interview situation, you need to act quickly in order to make a brilliant (and memorable!) first impression on your interviewers. Do your research. Give a firm handshake. Pay attention. And be optimistic. But, most of all, always be yourself."

Having passed his NVQ Level 3 in Advice and Guidance, he is now a fully-qualified Job Coach and has additionally taken on the role of Employment Engagement and Digital Media Officer. He is responsible for all aspects of Involve Northwest's social media presence and working with employers to create more positive opportunities for users of the Reachout service.
